Signed A.Gory
This is a Genuine Antique French-Italian Hand-Sculpted Carved Life-Size ( 16\"H x 15\"W x 7\"D) Quality Alabaster Bust Sculpture
by one of the most talented sculptors of that period,
Affortunato Gory, Italian/French (1895 - 1925)
Affortunato Gory was born in Florence, Italy.
He studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence under Augusto Rivalta.
In the beginning of the 20th century he moved to Paris
and completed his education under Victorien-Antoine Basset.
He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français
in 1902, 1904, 1912, 1914 and 1923.
His oeuvre consists of sculptures of young women, children
and some historical figures like Rembrandt en Dante.
He worked in alabaster, marble, bronze, ivory,
often combining these materials in so-called chryselephantine figures.
Despite his tragically short life,he made his mark
as one of the most brilliant talents of all time in his chosen medium
and some of his works have sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars
(including one of mine :))

As Tolkien writes in The Fellowship of the Ring,
“All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
What a wise man.
After all, he also advises us,
“Never laugh at live dragons.”
