Park County and Topaz Mountain Mining History

Park County has been a prosperous mining area, which has ledto most of the land being patented for private ownership from the state. Miningproperty along the Topaz and Tarryall Mountains has become difficult to obtain becauseof the several large gems and mineral deposits that have been found in the area.Minerals in this area include topaz, quartz, euhedral zircon crystals, microcline, albite, goethite, ferrocolumbite, and biotite.

(Found just over a mile away on the Topaz Mountain Gem Mine)

“Topaz occurs in the Tarryall Mts. in miarolitic cavities inpegmatites, in colluvial deposits, and in colluvial/alluvial deposits producedby glacial meltwater (Michalski, 1986). At the Topaz Mountain Gem mine, topazoccurs in 2 types of deposits. First, it forms well rounded \"cutters\"in small seams of deeper gravel that was deposited between large boulders.Second, it occurs in \"pristine\", sharply terminated crystals in poorlysorted granite colluvium. Both types probably originated in the rugged outcropsof 970- to 990-million-year-old potassium rich granite that occur to the eastand northwest of the mine. These outcrops are a part of the Redskin stock, alate intrusive phase of the Pikes Peak batholith. Topaz occurrences areconcentrated along the contact between the Pikes Peak Granite and the Redskinstock” (Muntyan and Muntyan, 1985).

Topaz is a silicate mineral of aluminium and fluorine withthe chemical formula Al2SiO4(F,OH)2. Topaz crystallizes in the orthorhombicsystem, and its crystals are mostly prismatic terminated by pyramidal and otherfaces. Topaz is commonly associated with silicic igneous rocks of the graniteand rhyolite type. It typically crystallizes in granitic pegmatites or in vaporcavities in rhyolite lava flows.

Pure Topaz is colorless and transparent, but is usuallytinted into several colors (yellow, wine red, pale gray, red-orange, blue-brown,green, gold, and the rare pink) by impurities. Many states have adopted Topazas their state gemstone, precious topaz (Orange) in Utah, and mystic topaz(Blue) in Texas.

The most prominent mine in the area, the Topaz Mountain GemMine (where the gems pictured above were found) is located just over a mileaway from this claim. The claim is near a large camping and parking area andprovides ample recreation space.

Here are the answers to the 10 most common questions I get asked,

1. What am I purchasing with this sale? A 100% ownership interest in this mining claim, the exclusive rights to all gold, gems, rare earth, and minerals you find on the claim. Ownership of the land is not included.

2. What is a “Mining Claim”? A mining claim gives the claimant the exclusive rights to minerals on lands owned by the citizens of the United States. Mining claims are tangible assets; they can be bought, sold, traded, leased, gifted, or willed using a quitclaim deed.

3. What is the difference between a “Lode Claim” and a “Placer Claim”? A “Lode Claim” gives the claimant exclusive rights to minerals located in rock or veins; “Placer Claim” gives the claimant exclusive rights to minerals detached from the original location. Or another way to say this would be a “Lode Claim gives you subsurface mineral rights, often there are shafts or tunnels constructed, “Placer Claim” gives you surface or just below the surface mineral rights, often a river bed or stream bed.

4. Do I have to pay a royalty to the Federal Government for the gold or minerals I find? No! A mining claim is considered “Locatable” by the Government. Locatable means you own what you find!

5. What happens if I win this sale? At no additional cost to you our legal team will prepare a notarized quitclaim deed in the name(s) you request giving you 100% ownership of this mining claim. We will send you copies of the Notice of Location, County Recordation, GPS Coordinates if applicable, and the quitclaim deed.

6. How do I get the claim in my name? At no additional cost to you we will file the quitclaim deed with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

7. Can I change the name of my claim? Yes, let me know the name you would like and I will include the completed forms for you to sign and submit to the BLM and County Recorders Office.

8. How do I know were my claim is? The claim is marked as required by federal and state laws with the discovery mount and corner mounts when needed. A copy of the “Notice of Location” is included in the mounts. GPS Coordinate’s or Public Land Survey was used as a permanent monument in locating this claim ensuring your legal rights!

9. How do I access my claim? Images of the routes you can use to get on the claim are included in the sale. Most claims are accessible by a 2 wheel drive truck and some by a car. We have decided to give you images of the access roads and any information we have to help you decide if this claim is right for you.

10. What do I have to do to keep my mining claim forever? You must pay annual maintenance fees of $155 for a lode claim, $155 per every 20 acre increment on a placer claim, or file a waiver of fee if you have less than 10 claims.
