In the years 1970-1973 he studied at the Academy of General Staff of the Polish Army in Rembertów on a general military course.After graduation, he was appointed as chief of staff - deputy commander of the 28th tank regiment in Czarne.Then, after completing his internship at the Pomeranian Military District Operational Command in 1976, he was appointed commander of the 9th Mechanized Regiment of the 12th Mechanized Division in Stargard Szczeciński.

In May 1996 he was appointed a general of arms,and in November of thatyear,he was appointedcommanderof the Land Forces, which he was until September 2000.
