Roosevelt - VAL-KILL pewter Matchbox cover (in original very good condition with the required VAL-KILL trademark stamp on reverse and FDR portrait (nickel size medallion of President Franklin D. Roosevelt ~ Hyde Park, NY) on cover as seen. I acquired this rare VAL-KILL gift many years ago from an old estate here in Washington, D.C. .. The accepted reference guide for Official White House Christmas cards from Mary Seeley states that President Roosevelt ordered 200 pewter VAL-KILL letter openers the following Christmas of 1936 and describes the 1935 FDR Christmas gift and shows two examples . 1935 was the first year that President Roosevelt specifically requested and ordered an \"official\" pewter Christmas gift from VAL-KILL for his executive staff at the White House and based on the very few examples that have ever surfaced on or anywhere... its most likely a very modest 100-150 or so examples were ordered in that first year of 1935...

Given that I have owned ALL the Official FDR VAL-KILL gift items at various times over the years..
