Pretty & Petite Norwegian Arts & Crafts/art Nouveau Era 830s Silver Candlesticks:
Pretty and Petite Pair Of Norwegian Répoussé Silver Candlesticks, each marked 830 S, from the Arts & Crafts/Art Nouveau Era, c.1900-1920.
A very pretty pair of little répoussé silver candlesticks in Art Nouveau/Arts & Crafts style, apparently of Norwegian make, c.1900-1920. They’re rather petite at 1 15/16”in diameter and 1 1/4” high, and together the unweighted pieces weigh just .8 oz/23 g. Their artistry is their chief appeal however, their flaring bases in the form of a four-petalled Gothic style quatrefoil flower, with simple projecting bands above and below, and with a broad, scooped bobeche at the top of each. They’re each marked “830 S”, so they’re made of .830 silver; this suggests an origin in Norway, where that unusual standard was employed. While relatively light in gauge, they’re crisply detailed, have survived in impeccable condition, and display beautifully. The pair take small candles of 5/8” diameter; I bought some for display purposes (shown in the photos) which I’ll also send with the candlesticks to the buyer. I imagine replacements in many colors are also readily available for purchase online.
