A super quality unusual Anglo Indian silver shaving soap box. It is marked on its base with the maker’s mark of DASS & DUTT ofBHOWANIPORE CALCUTTA and tests as sterling silver. It dates to c1900. It has been very finely embossed witha village scenes. The lid has been engraved with the entwined initialsGW or WG. Originally it would have held a gentleman’s shaving soap which could be pushed up using the disc base. It is in superb condition being free from dings splits holes andrepairs. It measures over 3.25 inches (8.6cms) tall by almost 1.5 inches (3.6cms)across and weighs 73 grams. A well made unusual piece.
