A top quality and early 8 day French mantle clock by \'Raingo Freres\' of Paris. This superb piece is beautifully made from ormolu (gilt bronze) and black marble (or perhaps slate?) and comes complete with a nicely detailed figureof a young woman in period dress either sewing or holding a flower, nice with original gilding (Please see photos). The case has equally delightfully cast gilt bronze mounts and feet all in very good condition (One foot at the back has traces of glue but still looks good). The case is stamped \'No1176\' as is the movement and pendulum so all are original to each other.

The early 8 day silk movement dates from around 1840-1860 and is by a top maker \'Raingo Brothers\' of Paris. The springs are good and movement is running but would benefit from a service. The white enamel dial is mostly good with a chip a couple of hairline cracks (very hard to see) the only damage worthy of note. Nice original moon shaped hands. Needs a piece of glass for the back door and doesn\'t have glass at the front although I\'m pretty sure it wouldn\'t have had one. Measures 19in high x 11in wide x 5.5in deep. A beautiful period clock in nice condition.
