Here I am offering something really special, a painting of a priest with one of his flock with an inscription in German. Dates to the 1600s, latest early 1700s. These are one of the earliest miniature portraits I have ever seen offered on . Unusual full figure depiction, very interesting to see the fashion. Very fine miniature painting. Notice the depiction of the lace and especially the headdress.Looks to me as if this sheet of paper (later laid down on another sheet) may have been out of a friendship album or similar.The paintings seam to be in watercolor. Writing in ink. I took the photos under different light condition (all in natural daylight), the paper is not as yellow as it comes out in some of the photos.The writing reads translated: \"I teach the word of The Lord to my flock, leading them to God........\"Size: The paper with the painting and writing is about 5\" x 3 1/4\". The paper it was glued onto is 10\" x 6 1/4\".Condition: Very good antique condition for something of this age. No holes or rips. Greenish spot in text.
