I am selling for a friend this first edition hard cover 660 page book by Frazar Kirkland:
\"The Pictorial Book of Anecdotes & Incidents of the War of the Rebellion - Civil Military Naval & Domestic:\" includes \"heroic patriotic political romantic humorous and tragical anecdotes\" and \"famous words and deeds of woman,\" etc.
It has over 300 black and white engravings and a front full page plate in color.
It was published in 1866 by Hartford Publishes, Connecticut. The text is fascinating and describes all sorts of vignettes of daily life during war time of civilians and soldiers, not just major war encounters. Individual human interest stories like the deaf mute from Brooklyn who enlisted and became the troop\'s tailor but also drew realistic battle scenes that were lithographed. Or the Southern belles giggling and thrilled when a beehive opened the wrong way and swarmed and stung some Yankee soldiers they found very rude!
The book measures 10\" long x 6 3/4\" wide x 2\" deep.
It appears to have been owned by and is signed on the front page by Arthur J. Clark who is a well known psychologist and author of many books on the subject.

The front leather cover is almost totally loose from the spine. A piece of the leather front cover lower left is missing, measures about 3\" by 1 1/2\" and there is general wear as seen in photos. The front cover is almost totally loose from the spine. The leather spine is intact but also with wear and some small tears at the bottom. 4th foto is the back cover which is also barely attached to the spine.
The color engraving and most of the black & white illustrations are in excellent condition.
Some pages have age related staining & yellowing.
