RARE 18C/19C CHINESE EXPORT CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER BOTTLE NECK VASE W WARRIORS:

Description.... I am very proud to offer this rare 18c/19c Chinese export deeply carved cinnabar lacquer bottle neck vase having fabulous subject matter produced in China sometime around c1780 to c1820 for the \'China Trade\' market going West. This great lacquer vase has many individual layers or coats of lacquer built up toachievethe desired depth with a fine deep red color and a strong patinized surface sheen. The subject matter going around the outside of the widest part depicts a warrior on horseback with a figure getting him ready and another warrior with arrows in a quiver carrying a bow along with a couple of maidens, farmers and a Scholar with adisciplehiding behind him then a great depiction of a farmer balancing a pair of bundles of rice or wheat on a shoulder pole. These figures are surrounded by various full and extremely well done trees, rockery, boulders along with a superbly executed brick bridge and other items all on diverse geometric grounds. The bottle neck has a very interesting treatment of a wide band of both lotus flowers andchrysanthemums as well asdenselycarved leafy scrollswith a lappet band of ruyi heads just under the mouth and more complicated lappeting and a key fret band on the shoulder and to the bottom just above the foot ring. The inside of the mouth shows kind of a reddish paint which was put there at a later date for some odd reason but the interior as well as the bottom are finished in a black lacquer. This istruly a special and important cinnabar object so offer to win as you will not bedisappointed!
Condition...Overall excellent and does not look its early age but there are a few chips to the carvings on the widest part and the foot appears to have been bumped at one time as there is a short crack below the front legs of the horse and a slight push with a piece of the geometric design missing but this is not anything serious but needed to be mentioned and other than just light surface wear and needing a bit of a dusting this bottle vase has survived the years quite well.
