This is a stunning and rather rare early Antique Georgian brooch dating to the early 1800s. It is crafted in Pinchbeck.
Pinchbeck, sometimes calledPinch, is a metal alloy that you won't encounter in today's jewelry. You might hear the term used to incorrectly describe base metal, gold-filled or gold-plated jewelry.
Pinchbeck's Roots
Pinchbeck is a durable yellow metal that resemblesgold, but is made with a combination of copper and zinc... much less zinc than the combo of the same two metals used to produce brass. The formula was developed by Christopher Pinchbeck, a London clockmaker who lived from about 1670 to 1732.This beautiful piece is set with old cut Garnets which are all intact and securely claw set.It measures around 4.5 cms or 1 3/4 inches long and 1.75 cms or almost 3/4 of an inch wide and is in the good wearable Antique condition as shown with a secure pin and c type clasp, please study my pictures as they form part of my description.
ITEMS SHOULD BE PAID FOR WITHIN 5 WORKING DAYS AFTER THE END OF THE sale UNLESS WISHING TO COMBINE IN WHICH CASE PLEASE GET IN TOUCH.
