This bound book of the HARPER\'S WEEKLY newspaper from 1859-60 contains the daily events of the time including many illustrations, articles, ads, cartoons and stories.

The issue of slavery and succession is already beginning which led to civil war.

Some articles include - UNION CANDIDATES(may 19) - Slave bark \"Wildfire\" captured with 510 native Africans on board(June 2) - General Garibaldi and the Italian War(June 9) -torture in Italy (July 7) -Virginia declines to secede(March 24) - arraigning the president (Buchanan pg 226)

Illustrations include REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES (pg 296-7) - DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES (pg 248-9) - Lincoln (pg 321) - how they put babies to sleep in India (pg 185) pg is torn, so is pg 207 -

There are many cartoons, many unacceptable in today\'s society .

The book cover is separated from the bound volumes of the papers and is in poor condition. The bound volumes are in pretty good considering it\'s age- remember , it\'s 155 years old!
