RARE ARTIFACT Tiki Wood Carving Art from Marquesas Islands, French Polynesia 13\":
$449.00

This museum-quality tiki carving is a Polynesian spiritual artifact, and not a campy decoration item. If properly respected, it will bring much peace and protection to its owner!

Thehuge alien-likeeyes and bulb-shaped headfound ontikis only from The Marquesas Islands in French Polynesia have led some to speculate that this remote island group was visited by anicent astronauts. The spiritual mythology of French Polynesia points to The Marquesas as the home of the gods who descended from heaven above.

Westerners may look upon tikis as mere kitsch objects, but to Polynesians they hold muchmana(spiritual force) and are important spirit guardians to holy places likeheiau(temples) orkapu(taboo)locales.

AlthoughHawaii\'s very first inhabitants of came from the Marquesas, subsequent waves of larger migration derived from the Tahiti Islands group to the south. Thus, Hawaiian tikis do not share the same characteristics as Marquesan tikis, and ultimately evolved into their own unique style while Marquesan tikis retained their same unique motifs over generations.

Although generally benevolent, Polynesian tikis typically portray fierce or disconcerting facial expressions in order to scare bad spirits away.

I am a travel guidebook writer, and I purchased this exquisite piece of art on a trip to the cinematic isle of Hiva Oa - home to the largest ancient tikisculptures in all of French Polynesia.Hiva Oa is alsofamous as Paul Gauguin\'s home during his final years and the subject of many of the Post-Impressionist\'s paintings.

I met a local woodcarver here, who sold me this expertly-crafted statue. When I asked about the splash stains on it, he laughed and told me his wife would spit her kava kava on it for good luck!

Tikis simply don\'t get more special or authentic than this museum piece!
