RARE \'BUN\' FORM LIPTON\'S TEA CADDY - WEMBLEY EMPIRE EXHIBITION 1925:
$31.08

TheEmpire Exhibition, Wembley held in 1924/5 aimed \"to stimulate trade, strengthen bonds that bind mother Country to her Sister States and Daughters,to bring into closer contact the one with each other, to enable all who oweallegiance to the British Flag to meet on common ground and learn to know eachother\". It was intended to herald a great Imperial revival - in fact, it was to prove an escapist delight frompost-war gloom and retrenchment.

Inantique/design terms it was remarkable for the mass outbreak of merchandisingand for the use of a main brand - the fantastic Art Deco lion designed by F.C.Herrick. Little known at the time,Herrick designed some of the best posters, graphics and alphabets of the ArtDeco era.

There are many Lipton\'s caddies around, almost all heavily dented, andin three forms - globe, Greek urn and this rarer \'bun\' shape.
  • Tea caddy carrying the superb lion logo by F. C. Herrick [see above]made from brass with a tinned structure which explains the lower number ofdents.
  • Marked below the \'equator\' LIPTON\'S SOUVENIR TEA CADDY .. .. .. BRITISHEMPIRE EXHIBITION 1925
  • Marked LIPTON on the base and Design Registration Number 711486 for 1925.

SIZE - 2\" base x 4.5\" at widest diameter x4\" high

CONDITION - quite good condition for one of these pieces, partly because of the tinned structure used in 1925 compared to thebrass of 1924. Double dent to the left of the Lion; two on the lower base and a slight wrinkling to the base rim.
