CLEMCO THE FIRST Christmas NATIVITY DISPLAY

This is Clemco #600 The First Christmas cardboard musical nativity display, dating from the late 1940\'s or so. It has chalk figures, a hidden light bulb, which lights the creche and the star at the top, and a little mechanical music box thing which plays Silent Night. The Three Wise Men (or Kings) are on a rotating disc. When you wind the disc up and let go, it plays Silent Night. My family had one of these things in the early 1950\'s , so I know how it works.

Now, the rotating disk actually holds 4 chalk figures. On this particular unit, it appears that a previous owner moved one of the Wise Men and placed him next to the crib. After a while, the orginal glue fails, and owners are forced to make their own repairs. I beleive that all the original chalk figures are included with this item, just one of them has been moved.

The electircal cord certainly appears original. Part of the bakelite plastic has chipped off. This is common with bakelite from that period.

Condition: The worst issue is that the rotating disk connection to the music player is broken. The disk now just spins loosely. The music does not play. Both the disk and the music player are in their proper positions, but the connection between them is broke. This may or may not be repairable.

More Condition: The star at the top is intact. Most times you will see a hole in the star, where someone shoved a light bulb through it (why, I can not fathom).One of the Wise Men came unglued and is loose. See photo. He can be easily glued back. Here and there small areas of paint have worn off with age. This is shown in the photos. The electic bulb works fine. I advise care when working with the original wiring.

For its age, and putting the broken music connection aside, the item is in amazing condition.
