RARE EARLY 18TH CENT SMALL BIBLE,COMMON PRAYER,PSALMS,1707 - 12, PLUS 1 OTHER:
$65.42

I have on offer here two small leather bound bibles and psalm books.
The first consists of 4 parts bound together. There is The Book of Common Prayer and administration of the sacraments and other Rites and Ceremonies of the Church, according to the use of the Church of England, together with the psalter of psalms of David, pointed as they are to be sung or said in churches, Oxford, printed by the university printers MDCCXI (1711)Next there is The Holy Bible containing the old and new testaments newly translated out of the original tongues Oxford, printed by the university printers 1707Next there is The New Testament newly translated out of the original Greek, Oxford university printers1711Lastly The Whole Book of Psalms collected into English Metre by Thomas Sternbold, John Hopkins and others, Oxford, printed for the company of stationers 1712.It has an interesting family record to the inside front, dating from 1806 to 1812 with 3 sets of twins and 1 single child in what looks like the name of Butler.
This little bible measures 5 inches by 2.5 inches by about 2.25 inches deep and is in tiny print.I assume these were perhaps bound together at some point given the various dates. As you can see it has suffered a bit over the last 300 years. The back leather cover is missing and it looks like there may have been straps to the front where you can see holes. It has darkened over the centuries and there is a section where the edges have worn off which I have photographed. Please refer to the pics which give the best description really.
Also included is the psalms of David in metre according to the version approved by the Church of Scotland, Edinburgh, printed by Sir D Hunter Blair and J Bruce Printers to His most excellent majesty 1823.This is leather bound measuring about 5.75 by 3.5 inches and is has Spottes Hall written in pencil. As you can see there is damage to the spine although the book seems sound.
These bibles came as part of a group from a large estate in the borders of Scotland belonging at one point to a William Young Herries who married Amelia Saumarez daughter of Admiral Saumarez and I am also selling a French English Dictionary published 1797 belonging to her in another lot so please have a look at the other items I am selling.
A really interesting little lot on at a low start and so good luck!

I have just noticed that whilst I have photographed this I have not mentioned it in the description so for accuracy please note that as seen in pic 5 a page has been cut out of the small early bible. It is between the end of the first part before the second part and has been I think perhaps a page of annotations? I\'m not sure but if you have any queries please feel free to get in touch.
