RARE MID 18TH C FRENCH IRON FRAMED LANTERN CLOCK FORMERLY VERGE ESCAPEMENT:

A rare mid 18th century country made French iron framed lantern clock.
Iron dial plate with brass chapter ring, front fret and hands.
Countwheel striking.
The cock was originally single handed with a verge escapement but was converted to two hands and an anchor escapement at an ealy date, probably only a very few years after the clock was first made, judfing by the workmanship. This conversion involved the going train beig replated about 1/2\" higher up and the consequential repositioning of the chapter ring with the fret. The original hand hole in the dial plate can still be seen below the present hands centre.

The movement is in good condition.
Nice dark patina to the ironwork.
Moderate wear to the pinions, wheels and pivots consistent with the age of the clock.
The wheel trains run when pressure is applied to them.
The escapement functions correctly
The movement is complete.
