Born in Cambridge Massachusetts, he served in Labrador during WWII,
returned with a swing arm lamp design that started his career
as a lamp designer and importer. By 1946, he was the talk of Manhattan
and everyone wanted a Hansen lamp! Prestigious Furniture maker
Widdicomb employed Hansen to manufacture Robsjohn Gibbings\'
tripod floor lamps and other lighting designs. The name Hansen was synonymous with great lighting.
Hansen lamps were being made by metalworker Carl Knecht in 1946 and
then, when Knecht retired, Hansen hired a Spanish firm Metalarte out
of Barcelona. Hansen\'s showroom was in Manhattan and was filled
with his own designs and the best lighting he found from around the world. Here is an epic Danish Modern Hansen lamp that was sold in Hansen\'s
Manhattan showrooms circa 1960. It was manufactured in Kolding, Denmark
for Hansen. They had been working with Hansen since 1956 and their designs
were sensational! It is the epitome of 1960 Danish Modern styling!
A rocket lamp, carved out of fine wood, garnished with brass
and sleeker than any Sputnik! This lamp is INCREDIBLY rare.
It\'s likely, less than a few dozen of these were manufactured and
sold in Hansen\'s showrooms back in 1960 to design conscious Manhattanites.
What was rare then - is impossibly rare now. It\'s safe to say
this is one of the rarest and most desirable mid century lamps
in the world.Hansen lamps are now extremely coveted and are only going up in
value. Hansen lamps were used in the Carlyle Hotel, the LBJ Presidential
library and any place that required lighting of dignity and class.
Hansen retired in 1988 and passed on in 2001. His mid century
legacy is one that will never be forgotten and stamped an indelible
impression on the tastes and furnishings of the period. This lamp is in superb vintage condition. A handcrafted wood slat shade
complements this design and creates great contrasts when lit up!
The wood is in excellent shape. This lamp is a labor of love. The Danish designers carved each part
of the \'rocket body and then glued each part together.
There are no nuts or metal parts below the brass! The wood
rocket body was not bolted or turned, but completely glued together and
then coated in lacquer!INCREDIBLE DANISH CRAFTSMANSHIP!If you and your interiors demand the very best and rarest mid century
lighting - look no further. This lamp will distinguish your interiors and
give them the sort of quality illumination that could only be obtained
in 1960 by a very select few of the most affluent of trendsetters.
