RARE PAIR OF AUTHENTIC 17TH C VENETIAN RENAISSANCE BRONZE ANDIRONS / FIREDOGS:
$3800.00

An authentic rare pair of Italian Venetian Renaissance Bronze Andirons / Chenets or firedogs. In the Renaissance manner of or possibly the workshop ofNiccolò Roccatagliata (Italian, born Genoa, active 1593–1636).Early 17th Century, Italy. Each cast with putti and other winged beings, flowing drapery, lion masks, c-scrolls in an open lace design, all typical of Niccolo Roccatagliata. They are missing their top pieces which were probably a single Putti (Angel / Cupid). The back support bars are missing and there is a small round hole on the side of the lion\'s face on one of the andirons as well. They are dusty and also sooty on the back, but below the dust and on certain areas you can see the deep rich black patina which was frequently usedin Venice at the time. On some of the edges and spots where the patina has rubbed, you can see the brilliant gold bronzeshining through underneath.I have left the dust so it would not disturb the old patina which is hundreds of years old. There is a stroke of gold paint and a spot of silver paint on one of the andirons, I don\'t know why.Perhaps at some point someone was going to paint them? Thank goodness that didn\'t happen! Each measures: 9 3/4\" tall x 7 1/2\" wide at the base and 1 1/2\" deep. Each weighs 5.5 pounds. These have been in storage since the 1970\'s by a Los Angeles collector of high end antiques. Guaranteed authentic. Please email me if you have any questions and Thanks for checking out my sale.
