HISTORY:Beautiful “Objets D’art” with durability for Centuries to come…

“Cloisonné is an enameling technique in which the pattern is formed by wires soldered to the surface of the object to be

decorated; usually made from copper, forming cells or cloisons, each of which holds a single colour of enamelpaste

which is then fired, ground and polished.

The Cloisonné technique has been in use since the 12th century BC in the west, but the technique did not reach China

untilthe 13th or 14thcentury. It became popular in China in the 18th century. Initially bronze or brass bodies were used,

andthen, inthe 19th century - copper…

Chinese cloisonné is the best known Enamel Cloisonné, though the Japanese produced large quantities from the mid-19th

c.,of very high technical quality. In the west the cloisonné technique was revived in the mid 19th century following imports

fromChina, with its use continued in the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods and into the present…\"

Here is the Ultimate “POWER COUPLE” - our NOBLE MAN & LADY in

ceremonial dress. Quite rare… after extensive research we could not locate

any on the internet- past or present!!

Purchased in Beijing 1986 on tour at an upscale specialty store and enjoyed

for over 30yrs.These Playful Figures are more “Sculpture” than “Box”

(very minimal storage here…its rounded, convex hollow construction is

meant to minimize weight!).

“MRS” has a Robe with Dragons & Ruyi Border ~ while a smiling “MR”

seemsquite content Robed in Daisy Flowers.

Sculpted Faces are GILDED with GENUINE GOLD; then fired along with the

MULTI-COLORED ENAMELS. Used here areunusual LIME / GREENS with

Turquoise, Red, & White on BLACK Backgrounds. TheInteriors and Bottoms

are in aged Teal Blue Enamel. FIGURES (with Black Lacquer Bases)

MEASURE approx. (-3”diameter x -6”h.) //< -7.5cm dia. x -15cm h >

& each WEIGH: 8.3 oz.

They are wonderfully expressive and very effective when placed alongside

items of other media: (porcelain, crystal, bronze & stone).

They will definitely command respect in any Display!!

“Male” has tarnish spot on right hand & under chin -(see Photos)…

insidemetal lips have some oxidation spots but have been left unpolished.
