Beautiful Early Set of 12 Madeira Fine White Linen Dinner Napkins 17\"
Stock 196 Pristine snowy white fine quality Irish linen expertly embellished with early Madeira whitework hand embroidery, lots of tiny Broderie Anglaise french eyelets and raised rondels. Gorgeous floral bride\'s basket pattern rarely found in this size. Hand finished scalloped edges entirely embroidered in the Casaedo Bastido closed blanket button hole stitch, the most difficult of the Madeira stitches and reserved for only the most highly skilled embroideresses. The embroidery has a very subtle icy blue tint to it, used in the earlier days to make the embroidery stand out even more.
This is an early set, c1920-1930 in the rarely found 17\" dinner size. This early Madeira whitework shows the strong English influence that was brought to the island in the mid 1800\'s that helped create the Madeira embroidery industry.A beautiful set in PRISTINE Condition~ Laundered Pressed and ready for your table
