Original 5\"x7\" mountedcabinet photo from Sheldon Studios in Northampton, Massachusetts. No date but circa 1895. Most likelySpanish AmericanWar period. The crossed rifle insignia for infantry ontheir capswas not adopted by the US Army until 1875 so this photo is from after that date but no later than the late 1890s. They appear to be wearing CivilWar period Cavalry greatcoats however.

Great photo of 2 uniformed soldiers from the 21st Regiment Infantry.

There hats each have the number 21 affixed to the guns so am assuming these men are from the 21st Regiment Infantry but am not sure as to what state they are from. If they were from Massachusetts there would have to be some sort of identification with MA in the insignia, such as an abbreviation or state symbol. I don\'t see anything like that in the image. With the numerals alone, it would designate the 21st Infantry Regiment, which had a long history in WWII as part of the 24th Infantry Division; were at Pearl Harbor AND CREDITED WITH BEING THE FIRST US ARMY UNIT TO RETURN FIRE TO THE JAPANESE. Theythen went on to Japan, Korea, also Desert Storm and I think they are still out there somewhere in the Army today!

In Good condition with corner wear as well as noticeable spotting and wear to the photo although faces and uniforms are bright and vibrant!

Overall, a great antique original Spanish AmericanWar period photo and a great addition to anyMilitaria collection!
