A Rare and Handsome Royal Doulton Figurine "Captain Cook", HN 2889, c. 1980-84
This is a fine collectible figurine of the famous English explorer, ship\'s captain and geographer James Cook (b. 1728, Yorkshire, England - d. 1779, Hawaii). Cook is credited with the discovery of New Zealand, Australia and Tahiti and with mapping much of the South Pacific.
The captain is seated in an elegant green chair. He wears a peruke and officer\'s garb and holds a map in his lap. A Maori mask, a compass and a box of maps rest around him.
The figurine was only briefly in production from the period between 1980-84.
This rare Doulton figurine would be a terrific addition to a collection or a handsome gift for a history buff with a love of travel.
Marked: On the bottom with the green transfer mark for Royal Doulton in use in 1982 and with the figurine name "Captain Cook" and the HN 2889. Below that, "Royal Doulton Tableware Ltd. 1979" (pictured).
Measures: 8 " H x 5 " W x 4 1/2 "D.
Excellent condition: Absolutely no chips, cracks, crazing or restoration (pictured).
