Item Description:

This vintage sterling silver buckle has been beautifully crafted by Navajo silversmith Tom Bahe. Tom Bahe (1924-2006) was known for his beautiful overlay work as well as the spin casting that is used in this piece. The buckle measures 3 1/8\" by 2 3/8\" and weighs 3 ounces or 84 grams. The loop at the back will fit a belt up to 1 1/2\" wide. This buckle is in great vintage condition. Tom Bahe was born in 1924 in Pine Springs, Ariz . He was born into the Edge Water People Clan for the One Who Walks Around People Clan. He learned silvermithing at the Fort Wingate Technical School. Tom worked as a silversmith for over 60 years. He worked at Atkinson Trading as well as for traders in Tucson, Phoenix and Scottsdale. Tom was traditional Navajo, he herded sheep and took part in traditional ceremonies.
