For sale is a really unusual and rare find which I recently purchased at an estate sale! It is a vintage, retro-moderne door chime still in its box with its original tag, mounting template, instructions, etc. This door chime is really cool-looking as the photos show! I have provided a large number of photos so that you can see what the door chime looks like and, if any of the photos don’t load, just click “Refresh” and they should then load. This door chime also appears to be N.O.S (“New-Old-Stock”) as discussed further below.
I’ve never seen a door chime like this, especially one still in its box. The plastic cabinet has a very interesting shape and has, on its front, a really unique-looking brass-colored emblem which looks very “space age”! The cabinet and brass-colored emblem look like they are in really nice condition in my view, and check out all of the photos that I have provided. The emblem is bright and shiny and, while it does have some scratches (see, for example, the front of the emblem), nicks, dings, dents, etc. on it, many of these items are too small to be picked up by the camera. I have provided a large close-up photo of the emblem so that you can see it in detail. The case also looks very nice in my view and, while it does have some nicks, scratches, scrapes, dings, lines, etc. on it, most of these items are likewise too small to be picked up by the camera. In summary, it has a really cool “retro” look to it which would look great in a mid-century house!
I don’t know the date of this door chime, although the instruction sheet has the number “60-2” which would suggest 1960, but I do not know if this is correct or not. It was sold by Montgomery Wards and it still has the original Ward’s paper tag attached to it! (see the close-up photo of the tag). The tag is in good condition in my view and, while it has some bends, creases, tears, scuffs, scrapes, etc., it is in nice condition in my view. I have also provided some photos of the rear and of the inside of the door chime so that you can see its mechanism. The inside of the door chime is very clean as the photos show. As discussed later in this description, I have no idea if this door chime is complete, if it works, if it has been worked on by someone else in the past, if any of its parts have been changed, if it has all of the correct and original parts, etc. In this regard, this door chime is being sold untested and as-is as a vintage collectible with no warranties or guarantees. I have not inspected or assessed the door chime’s electronic components, wires, coils, springs, strikers, etc. and do not know if they are good, correct, etc. This door chime is being sold just as I purchased it at the estate sale. Since this door chime is being sold entirely as a vintage collectible for non-operational display purposes only, I have left everything in the door chime just as I found it at the estate sale and will leave an assessment of all of the above-listed items to the buyer and/or the buyer’s electrical/door chime expert.
Also included is a cardboard mounting template as shown in the photos and an instruction sheet. The mounting template does have some scratches, creases, bends, etc. but looks to be in good condition in my view. The instruction sheet is mostly there, but is quite tattered and there are various holes, missing pieces, folds, tears, scratches, scuffs, etc. and it is very delicate. Please see the photo of it to see its condition. However, it is amazing that the sheet is still there and it is really a bonus to have it. In addition, the factory inspection tag is present, too!
Please see the many photos of the box that I have provided. The box has a very cool and retro look to it! It is in good condition for its age in my view. The graphics on the box are fantastic, too! The box does have some tears, scrapes, scuffs, bends, creases, worn areas, one or more missing staples, discolored areas, etc., with many of these items being too small to be picked up by the camera. In addition, there is a label on the side of the box which is very worn with portions of it missing. However, I think that the box is really interesting looking and has a wonderful vintage appearance!
In summary, this door chime is really interesting, distinctive, and unusual. It would be a wonderful addition to any collection of vintage mid-century items and would look fantastic in any mid-century home! VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION – PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU offer: Regarding the door chime being sold in this sale, this is an estate sale item and I honestly don’t know anything about how it works, whether it works, whether its internal and external wiring is correct or good, whether its components and parts are good, and whether it is complete. I have not done anything to this door chime and all of its parts, transformers, wires, electronic components, coils, springs, terminals, strikers, chime bars, hardware, etc. and all of its other components and I know nothing about their condition. The above-described door chime may have been worked on by someone else in the past, but I don’t know whether this is true or not. Likewise, I have not tested the door chime being sold in this sale and all of its parts, transformers, wires, electronic components, coils, springs, terminals, strikers, chime bars, hardware, etc. and all of its other components, with all of these items and the above-mentioned door chime being sold untested just as I purchased them at the estate sale. In this regard, I have done nothing to this door chime. In addition, please also note that this sale is for a single door chime and box as shown in the photos. This sale does not include any power sources/supplies, door chime buttons, and any wiring/ hardware that is needed for these items. The only items that are included in this sale are those which are shown in the photos.
Please also note: The equipment which is being sold in this sale (including the door chime and all of its parts, transformers, wires, electronic components, coils, springs, terminals, strikers, chime bars, hardware, etc. and all of its other components) are being sold entirely as a vintage collectible for non-operational display purposes only. Since this door chime is an untested, vintage estate sale item, the buyer of this equipment should therefore assume that this door chime is going to need some work, parts, wires, wiring work/replacement, transformers, electronic components, coils, repairs, etc. However, I do not know how much work, parts, wires, wiring work/replacement, transformers, electronic components, coils, repairs, etc. would be needed to get everything operating in the above-listed equipment, and I will leave this up to the buyer and/or the buyer’s electrical/door chime expert. I know nothing more about the door chime being sold in this sale (and everything associated with it) and, accordingly, all of these items (the door chime and all of its parts, transformers, wires, electronic components, coils, springs, terminals, strikers, chime bars, hardware, etc. and all of its other components) are again being sold entirely as a vintage collectible for non-operational display purposes only with no guarantees or warranties of any kind.
The door chime associated with this sale will be shipped via the U.S. Postal Service. Please note that, if the final shipping cost is more than the amount quoted above, I will pay the difference and if it is less than the quoted amount, I will keep the difference. Finally, while I have indicated that, in my opinion, the door chime in this sale is NOS, it is never possible to tell with certainty whether any vintage items purchased at estate sales, etc. are truly NOS. Based on the condition of this item, the presence of an original tag on it, and the presence of all of the other items that come with it (including the box), this door chime appears to be NOS in my opinion. But, as noted above, it is never possible to tell for sure if a vintage item is NOS and I cannot guarantee that the door chime in this sale is truly NOS. I wanted to mention this and please make a note of it.
