For sale is an extremely rare Gladding, McBean Flower Boxwith Legs in the color “Neptune”, circa 1930. This piece is so rare that thatseveral weeks were spent back and forth in conversation with Gladding, McBean& Co. in Lincoln, California to narrow down exactly what piece this was. GMCBcontacted James Elliot-Bishop, author of the book “Gladding, McBean wares”, andthey came to the assumption that this is the described flower box for sale. Oneof the reasons this gem is so rare and hard to identify is because it was createdcirca 1930 in the Glendale, California plant, which was only in existence forseveral years. GMBC does not even have the product archives from the Glendaleplant today! Evidence is partly due to the fact that this piece does not havethe traditional “GMCB” embossed stamp on it: such practice was not adopteduntil after the plant moved to Northern California from Southern California. Itis highly unlikely that few, if any, Gladding, McBean flower boxes in existencetoday bear this characteristic!
