RARE Walter GROPIUS W199 CHAIRS (4) mid century modern Thonet BAUHAUS Bent Wood:
$11000.00

\'W 199\' armchair, 1952. H. 74 x 60.5 x 53 cm. Made by Thonet, USA. Nutwood, stained dark, plywood.

The legendary Bauhaus architect Walter Gropius designed the rarely-seen \"W199\" armchair in 1951 with Benjamin Thompson, a fellow professor at Harvard. Gropius\' teaching career came to an end a year or two later, and he returned to practicing architecture full-time, as principal of the firm he established with Thompson and six other former Harvard colleagues, The Architects\' Collaborative. These armchairs work equally well as dining chairs, desk chairs, or reading chairs. They are beautifully constructed of solid nutwood, and are quite comfortable, even for prolonged periods of sitting.FOUR of these chairs are available at one price. If I am contacted by 3 or more members in good standing, interested in single chairs, I will consider splitting the group. FREE SHIPPING to US lower 48 states only.
