ROMANTIC 19TH CENTURY NEEDLEPOINT PILLOW FIGURAL~ COLONIAL MAN

This is an early 19th century hand stitched wool needlepoint tapestry turned into a 21st century pillow. The subject is a man in colonial dress writing. You can tell from his clothing that he is from the aristocracy. In the background you can see what looks like a castle and in the foreground there are trees and greenery. The whole needlepoint is very faded. The color palette is pale greens, rusts and golds. The man is completely done in petitpoint and his face and hands are done in micro petitpoint. His face is done so finely it looks like it’s painted. The rest is done in needlepoint except for the sky which was left unstitched which was typical for this time period. Unfortunately there is an inch that has split (see close-up). I stabilized the whole unstitched area of the back (see photo). I think if gently treated it will last for many more decades, if not centuries. I am pricing it accordingly.

Around the needlepoint I used a tri color tassel trim which goes well with the needlepoint. It is on a pale green and beige cotton damask. I finished the pillow off with a tri color bullion trim that matches the tassel trim. Everything works together to create a soft romantic vibe. Please note some photos were done with flash and some without.

This pillow measures 20” x 24”. There is a zipper closure for your convenience and a down and feather insert for a plush look and feel. The entire pillow is lined for extra durability. It is in excellent newly created condition with the damage I described above.It comes from a smoke free home.
