Absolutely stunning modernist and minimalist flambe red and black curvaceous vase from the worldacclaimed Royal Doulton factory, in colours of flambe red, and a dazzling jetblack whereby the series was entitled \' Rouge Et Noir \'. The aforementioned range was conceived and designed after the world acclaimed Royal Doulton \' Veined \' series. The vase starts with a red unglazed outer circular baserim whichsurrounds the flambe glazed central area that houses the factories marks - please seebelow or the last photo. The vase ascends upwards and outwards to form strikingly subtle and very tactile, slightly arcing perimeter walls. The piece\'s superlative arcing or crescent shaped walls are heightened and accentuated by the sheen of the piece jet black glaze. The latter is so impressive it resembles the multiple paint layers of automobiles whereby the vase\'s overall shape evokes the shape of a large skittle. The vase\'s impressive elongated arcing walls eventually start to recede whereby a very high rounded shoulder starts to recede both in size and stature. The latter forms a gently sloping ledge like affair that soon graduates into the vase\'s shortened, reduced neck. The neck itself also displays a very slight arcing curvature that compliments the piece\'s lower reaches. The vases high temperatureglazed minimalist decoration is quite striking in its lack of classical ortraditional forms of adornment. The piece relies solely on its superbly subtle and restrained shape and jet black glaze capped only by a flambe red summit. The vase\'s reduced neck forms a reduced funnel like shape. The latter is coated with a striking flambe red glaze that totally envelopes its upper reaches. The richly saturated flambe glaze is extended as it has been allowed to bathe the vase\'s gently sloping upper reaches. The latter weaves an undulating, wave like path that forms an encircling rounded collar. The funnelled neck takes the eye to the pieces reduced mouthrim whereby the red flambe glaze also extends to the vasesinterior. The mouthrim itself displays no external lip or internal mouthrim which serves to accentuate and heighten the vase\'s superlative modernist form. Indeed the stark colour contrast of the Rouge Et Noir series and its simplified minimalist, very pleasing shape exemplifies understated minimalism. In this respect the range was so very ahead of its time. The vase has impressive height extols a certain very masculine character and a n almost assured presence. Its minimalistdecoration strengthens its place as a stand alone piece of art pottery in its own right whereby the range seems to merge the lines between art pottery and minimalist sculpture. To this end the piece is perfectly suited and very much in vogue with current tastes and fashion. I believe the piece should bedisplayed against or on a glass or white backdrop to accentuate itsunique and striking shape. Its contours are both stylish and elegant whereby itsdecoration is both minimalist, sophisticated and very modern. We have many Royal Doulton Flambe &Charles Noke vases in our collection of which we are sadly selling them slowlybut surely with at least one a month, amongst many other items of china andglass. We are getting on in years and it is an understatement to say that wehave had great pleasure in owning these beautiful vases for quite a lengthyperiod of time. We sincerely hope that they reach genuine and appreciative newhomes.
CONDITION – SIZE – WEIGHT – MARKS
The condition of the very tall and elegantly slender vase is A1 perfect and pristinewith no chips, dents, cracks, hairlines, abrasions, nibbles, scratchesorany otherdamage at all to its body. The tall vase measures 13.25 \" ( 33.5cms ) in height and weighs in at 620 gms. The size of the vase places it under the \' Medium Package \' rate at the Post Office - please see the according postal rates. The vase\'s red flambe glazed base supports theCrested Royal Doulton Crown and Lion - Royal Doulton - Made In England- Flambe - Rouge Et Noir in capitals - and the shape number - 1612. The aforementioned number also appear in impressed form above the vase\'s accreditation - please see the last photo.
