oppression that they had experienced for
seven centuries.The importance of Rainis is evident by the

There are monuments throughout Latvia
and Switzerland. Streets are named after
him and Aspazija. The New Cemetery was
renamed Rainis Cemetery.Coins and stamps have honored the
author during independent Latvia and
