Attribute toGEORGE NELSON original CIGAR BUBBLE LAMPca.1949 Steel-wire structure coveredin a translucent, white (now yellowed) \"plastic spray,\" a technique developed by the U.S. military and usedbythe George Nelson Officeto create sculptural fixtures. This material is fibrous on the inside, smooth, thick, \"rubbery\" coating on the outside. Below I\'ve posted a picture circa 1949of George Nelson with his bubble lamps. These earlylamps have wide spines a little more like this lamp shade-bubble. I realize that the brochures of Howard Millerfrom the 1960\'s tshowthe Nelson Bubble Lamps with thinner ribs.
\"Cigar\" is 13\"tall x 10\" wide--the measurements asdescribedon George Nelson website. Lamp is 17\" tall. Tripod legs reach out 6\" making the lamp 12\" wide.
Pull chain off-on.It could use a nice pull, like a plain ball.
Ultra-cool tripod base--black metal, with black wooden ball feet. According to www.georgenelsonfoundation.org, the bubble lamps originally came with thevarious mountings included, ceiling, retractable, tri-pod, and wall mounts. The tripod base is attached to the lamp ring and is part of the lamp. It is in the style of bases made by Isamu Noguchi for his Japanese Lantern Lamps.

CONDITION: White is yellowed. Has vintage dust. Has one small spot that looks melted or poked-not a hole. Lamp sits slightly askew--could possibly be adjusted with tripod. Very fragile. in the US by FedEx Ground--Item is very fragile and will be shipped in an extra large box.
