Hello buyer, Here we have a true 1855-1865 ambrotype (second level daguerreotype) in an ornate case. The photo is see through when held in the right light as all true ambrotype photographs will be. The subject is an ostensibly wealthy gentleman with his hand resting on a cushion of some sort. The man\'s face and the cushion have been lightly colored, making this rare piece even more desirable. Even more interestingly, the hinges of the golden bordered case have Jewish stars of David in the center. I have yet to see this bit of Judaica included in any type of daguerreotype or ambrotype or even tin type for that matter. What it means I do not know- though this could be a subtle clue to either the photographer or the subjects identity. This Jewish religious inclusion is so exceedingly rare in my experience that it can\'t be stressed enough as a point of interest accenting the colorization, sharpness, and excellent subject matter.
