DescriptionA GREAT SMALL SIZED 18TH CENTURY REVOLUTIONARY WAR ERA STAVED WOODEN RUM KEG, PROBABLY CONNECTICUT, CIRCA 1760-1780 IN NATIVE OAK AND PINE STILL RETAINING ITS ORIGINAL GRUNGY MUSTARD YELLOW PAINT AND WROUGHT IRON BANDS.
FANTASTIC EXAMPLE AND A VERY RARE SURVIVOR IN THIS CONDITION.
This GREAT RUM KEG is made of Native Red Oak and Pine.
THE PIECE IS IN NEAR PERFECT CONDITION WITH ONLY THE MOST MINOR OF LOSS TO THE PAINTED SURFACE.
THE PAINT IS INCREDIBLE. UNTOUCHED AND ALL ORIGINAL, THE MUSTARD YELLOW HAS THE BEST OLD SURFACE AND PATINA.
This type of canteen was carried by Revolutionary War Soldiers and Supply Officers to carry the daily allotment of "RUM" for the soldiers. It has the typical large center filling hole as well as the small end hole used to insert a spigot. Made in the typical 18th century manner, the sides are staved and held by wrought iron bands and the ends are inset into the body.
