A superb rare believed late 19 c Surveyors cross in heavy brass with hardwood stand.
This super item is as found , the top has a compass with black dial and white detail. the compass points are blued with some rusting evident , the upper and lower drum are brass which appears to have been cleaned in the past . the upper dial has a silvered outer ring with 360 deg marked still in good order . the lower drum is locked to the stand by one knurled nut and the other nut rotates the upper drum , the two drums dissected by a twin vernier ring the lower of which is marked 360 o . the upper 0-60 0 the base is hardwood with varnish loss , the locking nut unscrews and replaces fine the thread good, the centre stand also with very good thread into the lower drum. , the lower drum base has a small mark S.L with a small 3 pointed makers mark between . see photo.
This fine item measures approx 3.1/2\" wide at the dial rim x 10\" High, weight approx 1315gr .as shown .
A superb item ideal for the scientificcollector , or in a surveyorscollection. [ Please note I will be listing a C 1880 period . R Wagner no 17209 patent sight . stuck no 168. also]
