attic41 Store This is a rare pair of Antique, possibly 18th century Wrought Iron andirons, possibly made in America. These large andirons measure about 20 1/2\" tall, by about 20\" deep and weigh about 10 1/2 lbs. each. Each andiron has a \"Mushroom\" shaped top, 3 spit hooks in the back and a round shaped central plate, which perhaps served as a heat shield? I saw a similar central plate (theirs was rectangular with half-round cutouts around the edge) on a pair of andirons in the Winterthur collection. The Winterthur pair was estimated to have been made between 1700 and 1750.The iron work on these andirons is outstanding! The sculptural lines, and dramatic form is stunning! The condition of the andirons is very good. The back leg on one andiron has a chunk missing from the corner, but it is still strong and the loss doesn\'t appear to be a problem structurally. The iron has a dark patina, with some areas of light surface rust, but nothing major. The set presents very nicely as it sits.These rare andirons would make a great addition to someone who collects the finest Early America American antiques.Please check out my other sales as I am also selling two other outstanding and rare sets of Antique andirons.
