Here for your consideration is a magnificent and extremely rare, antique Victorian, 1844, solid silver, Nathaniel Mills, castle-top, card case,depicting the London Royal Exchange (stock exchange). The scene shown being an extremely rare view by Nathaniel Mills, with the tip of St Paul\'s cathedral just present in the background.

This is as good asit gets with regardscard cases,an extremely rare find.....I\'ve only got one, once it\'s gone .... it\'s gone. You might never find anotherone this good, and if there\'s one thing I\'ve learned aboutantiques/collectables, when items are of quality and extremelyrare, he who hesitatesusually loses out.

A very rare,early, Victorian hallmarked silver, castle-topcard case,depicting a delightful view of the London Royal Exchange, made by Nathaniel Mills inBirmingham in 1844. The repousse relief workmanship in this card case is without doubt some of the best we\'ve ever seen !!

This example is infine, original condition. Itfeaturesfinelyengravedfloral/leaf scrolls on an engine turned ground, centred to verso by a C-scroll vacant cartouche. Under the lidismarked with an N.M makers mark for Nathaniel Mills, in addition to Queen Victoria\'s head duty mark, the lion passant, with Birmingham anchor assay office mark and the gothic dateletter \"V\" for 1844.

Condition: A beautiful example of a very rare castle-top cardcaseby the very best Birmingham silver maker. This delightful card case is in very good original condition, with no dents, splits or damage. It does have some beautiful age related silver patination, commensurate with 172 years ofage, but nothing unusual.

This stylish card case has stunning engine turned decoration with beautiful floral backgrounds and superbly detailed, high reliefthree-dimensional scene of the London Royal Exchange, in very good original condition. A real must for anyserious silver collector !!

A registered silversmith in Birmingham, between 1826-1857 and isundoubtedly, the most famous Victorian silversmith in making castle-toppieces. Nathaniel Millscastle-top pieces are highly collectable,and would add value to any silver collection.

The Royal Exchangein London was founded in the 16th century by the merchantThomas Greshamon the suggestion of his factorRichard Cloughto act as a centre ofcommercefor theCity of London.The site was provided by theCity of London Corporationand theWorshipful Company of Mercers, who still jointly own the freehold. It istrapezoidalin shape and is flanked byCornhill and Threadneedle Street,which converge atBank junctionin the heart of the City of London. The design was inspired by abourse ThomasGresham had seen inAntwerp, and was Britain\'s first specialist commercial building.

It has twice been destroyed by fire and subsequently rebuilt. The present building was designed byWilliam Titein the 1840s. The site was notably occupied by theLloyd\'s insurance marketfor nearly 150 years. Today the Royal Exchange contains offices, luxury shops and restaurants.

Traditionally, the steps of the Royal Exchange is the place where Royal Proclamations (such as the dissolution of Parliament) are read out by either aherald or a crier.
