On the back photo is an autograph in Russianlanguage \"Dimitri Fedorovich! / In good memory/ Liu Shi-kun/ 26 / VI / 62/ Beijing/ People\'s Republic of China/ The Central Conservatory\"
На оборотной стороне фото автограф на русском языке \"Димитри Федорович! / На добрую память/ Лю Ши-кунь/ 26 / VI / 62/ Пекин/ КНР / Центральная консерватория\"LIU SHIKUN(simplified Chinese: 刘诗昆; traditional Chinese: 劉詩昆; pinyin: Liú Shīkūn; born March 8, 1939) is a Chinese pianist and composer.
He began his piano training at the age of three[1] and started publicly performing by the age of five. He won third prize and the Special Prize of the Liszt International Piano Competition in Hungary in 1956 and was awarded a strand of Franz Liszt\'s hair. He then proceeded to win second prize in the First Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition in Moscow.
Liu became one of China\'s top concert performers until 1966, when the Cultural Revolution and the Gang of Four attacked the country; Western music was banned and, along with thousands of other artists, Liu was arrested. He stayed in prison for six years.
Liu studied at Beijing\'s Central Conservatory of Music and graduated from the Moscow Conservatory of Music
Liu Shi Kun received his professional education at home, in China, and then improved at the Leningrad Conservatory, in the class of Tatyana Kravchenko. Undoubtedly, the Russian pianistic school with its rich traditions had a significant impact on the formation of the artistry of the Chinese musician, which was noted by the press during the contest. In particular, musical critics drew attention to the remarkable cantilena, colorful expressiveness and meaningful fullness of the interpretations of the 19-year-old pianist. The named qualities in synthesis with a special virtuosic plasticity and open temperament predetermined the success of Liu Shi Kun not only in the Moscow competition: in 1956, at the Liszt International Competition in Budapest, he received the 3rd prize. In the years of the Chinese \"cultural revolution\" Liu Shi Kun was among the \"dissidents\", which called into question his further creative destiny. Only in the late 1970s Liu Shi Kun was able to return to performing. Currently, Liu Shi Kun lives in the US, where she successfully continues her concert and pedagogical career.
