$203.50

Large 4 page letter in ink written Oct. 17, 1864 from \"the trenches of Petersburg\" by Pvt. William Greene to his Mother at home.Long letter with some great content including:\"I sent you and Aunt Emma, a few days ago, some photographs of Grant and Meade, which I trust you have received before this. They are very good portraits of our commanding murderers!!\"\"If you see John Maloon, you tell him from me, that if he does not want this Lincoln power to always reign to do all in his power to free the country from such a viper & cast an over whelming vote for Little Mac.\"\"Nothing has happened since I last wrote with the exception of a report which came around camp yesterday, which was that a Major had deserted from the enemy and had reported to Gen. Hancock that Fort Tilton was undermined and told him that if he would dig down & if he did not find powder there he might bury him alive in the hole. Men began to dig (for I saw them) and yesterday it was reported in camp that our men had struck the mine & were taking out the powder. I immediately went to the fort to see if such was the case. But I could not get in on account of it being strongly guarded, so I think there must be something in the story.\"For a complete transcript see Letter #111, pages 264 & 265 in the book Letters From A Sharpshooter - The Civil War Letters of William B. Greene, Co. G, 2nd USSS (Berdan\'s Sharpshooters).Guranteed Authentic
