ThisGeorge III solid silver salt is of oval form; having a gadrooned rim, to piercedsides with swag decoration around the body, surrounding a blank cartouche onone side and a decorated oval shield to the other; and stands on four, full,ball & claw feet. The Bristol blue glass liner has a star-cut base, a signof good quality.

Exceptfor the usual surface marks all commensurate with age and use it is in verygood condition for 243 years old; I don’t know if the blue glass liner is theoriginal but it is also in very good condition.

Itmeasures approx. 4.8 cm high, 8.3 cm x 6.3 cm across the oval rim and weighs65.1 grams / 2.09 oz troy (minus glass liner).

Thehallmarks are rubbed but just discernible; with the assay office London, thedate letter for 1773 and the maker’s mark for one of the importantsilversmiths, Robert Hennell I.
