GORGEOUS ENGLISH STERLING SILVER TOAST RACK 1821

RARE EARLY DESIGN OF RENOWN SHEFFIELD SILVERSMITHS

We are pleased tooffer this fineexample of an outstanding English sterling silver toast rack dating from1821. Made by the firm of Battie, Howard, & Hawksworth out of Sheffield.

Heavy gauge silver ofclassic rectangular design. Series of seven well cast double oval and sloped bars, sitting atop adeeply gardoonedborder. The centre bar with elegant irregular scrollworkframed oval handle atop shaped medallion. Cartouchewith period engraved family crest of an extanded arm in armor bearing a flamed torch. Stands atop four heavily scrolled matching shell style feet. Displays firm and level. Toast rack is in excellent condition considering the piece is over a 192 years old.

The toast rack weighs 8.5 oz andis 6 1/2 inches long, by 5 inches wide, and stands 5 inches to the top of the ring handle. An outstanding opportunity to own a highly collectible rack from ararely seen Sheffield maker of this quality and condition. Clearly punched with the lion passant for English sterling, the oval hallark of a crown for City of Sheffield, and the date letter of \"y\" for 1821 and bearing the makers mark of B.H & H in a square for Battie, Howard and Hawksworth.
