This Rare bayonet pictured is a pre-ww1 German M1898 a/A (alter Art or \"old pattern\") long pipeback/quillback blade bayonet made in 1901 by C.G. HAENEL, in Suhl, Germany and was sent to Prussian Army units. The marking with the script letter R indicates the bayonet was used by the 40th Reserve Infantry, 10th regiment, weapon number 28. The Crown/W/0l on top of blade indicates the bayonet was stamped for King Wilhelm II of Prussia (1888-1918) and was made in 1901. The script letter below the 01 or on the side of the pommel is a proof mark. These early one piece wooden grip bayonets are Highly sought out by collectors and the matching numbers on the cross guard of this bayonet and the steel top mount of the scabbard are a real rarity. Condition is very nice overall with patina about the piece as well as on the scabbard metal parts. Catch button works and has nice tight spring to it....the locket with frog catch is little loose to the rubber ...top metal finial section is also a bit loose but not as much,both still very much intact..just wanted to mention it..**Would make a fine addition to any Bayonet collection !the leather or rubber material is intact with some markings of coarse.....blade is very nice and is un-sharpened ...Estate find....The information obtained on this Rare find comes from theone of theforemostBayonet authorities in thebusiness- JD The Condition is Novice ly described by yours truly so Please view all photos and ask any and all questions i will do my best to help.THX AND GOOD LUCK!
