Rare Renaissance Tudor Period Gold Enamel and Pearl Jewel c. 16th - 17th century:
$1751.75
This is a rare Tudor period gold and enamel jewel, dating to the 16th - 17th century A.D. This would have likely been a lid from a gold portrait miniature case or locket, worn as a pendant, with a suspension loop / hinge. At some stage its its life the back of the jewel has been fitted with a 9k rose gold clip, presumably to be worn pinned to clothing or in the hair. The jewel is set with nine table cut gems, in imitation of table cut rubies. The outer border set with thirty two jewels set in blue and white enamel. The centre of the pendant is surrounded with a border of twenty fresh water seed pearls, threaded with silver wire. The jewel also contains eight tiny hearts, set in green enamel. It is a charming piece of Renaissance jewellery, that is seldom offered outside of a museum. With the strong pin on the back, this jewel can still be worn again today.
