Title : Rare Set of 12 MINTON Heavily Gilded PATE SUR PATE Musical PLATES 1956 Mint

Description : On offer is a museum quality set of custom ordered plates from world famous English porcelain maker Minton; this set of dinner / service plates are of white bone china with a pale cream border, around the side are three jasper blue coloured panels with hand-painted pate-sur-pate images of musical instruments and other classical imagery, all plates are signed by the artist A. Pointon; the cartouche have a beaded gold frame, the rest of the plate is gilded in a heavy gold acanthus, swag and bell flowers, and the plate is finished in a heavy gold beaded edge around the rim, the quality of these plates is indicated by the fact that the foot of each plate is also gilded. Sumptuous does not start to describe these plates. They have only been used a few times and show no signs of use and have been boxed up for more than 40 years. Being offered from the estate of a former Premier of Quebec.

Quantity : 12 large service / dinner plates

Maker : manufactured by Minton Porcelain Works of Staffordshire, England; marked on the back Minton Founded 1793 Bone China Made in England Henry Birks and Sons Ltd., there is also a pattern mark X.1062, the plates are also impressed Minton China 7-56, this showing the year of manufacture to be 1956. Henry Birks of Montreal was the equivalent of Tiffany\'s in New York, and was the purveyor of the finest to the wealthy classes of Montreal. We are under the impression that these plates were custom ordered by Birks for the buyer.

Size : each plates measures a little under 10 3/4 inches wide

Condition : All plates are in superlative condition showing no signs of use at all, all are shiny and have no scratch marks, there is no wear to the gold overlay and no crazy or any damage noted.
