Original Bound Scribner\'s Magazine July to December 1897
- Vol XXII No. 1 to No. 6
- Unusual corse woven, unmarked cloth binding seemingly from 1897 (?) with no external title or notations (including none on spine). Appears a handmade binding with NO signs that it is rebound. A bit of a mystery
- Purchased from high-end Maxfield Parrish dealer in the 1980s when I was working on a MP writing project about books with his illustrations because there is a very early article (artist was in his twenties) about Parrish titled The Illustrations by Maxfield Parrish. (page 157 - 168)
- Besides MP interests, the bound magazines are copiously illustrated by artists of the period including two articles (mostly full-illustrations in black and white) by A. B. Frost: 1.) 7 pages titled Some Golf Pictures and 2.) 7 pages titled With Dog and Gun. There is also (among other artist\'s work) an 8-page color (and elaborately bordered) art Nouveau set of full-page illustrations by A. B. Wenzell titled The Posing of Vivette (VERY nice).
- For history buffs, the articles themselves are interesting reflections of the time. Exemplified by: The Women\'s Club - The Unquiet Sex; The Business of a Newspaper; At the Foot of the Rockes; Life at Yale. William Morris; The Rustic Calendar (full-color illustrated poetry section - 4 pages); Lord Byron; The Workers - An Experimental Reality.
- 792 pages. 7.5\" x 10\" x almost 1.75\" thick.
