Up for offer is a Rare Vintage Navajo Mark Chee Heavy Silver Cuff Bracelet. This is a substantially heavy piece weighing 103.1 grams or 3.3 ounces. It measures 6 1/2” from end to end plus a 1 1/2” space in center. I have a medium sized wrist & it fits me comfortably with room to spare. This bracelet measures 1/8” thick & cannot be bent for size adjustment. If sizing would be necessary, it would have to be professionally adjusted by an experienced jeweler. Bracelet is 5/8” wide. Bracelet has the makers Hallmark & Signature (Bird with name: Chee). It has beautiful handwork done by this master craftsman who was an important traditional Navajo silversmith who made heavy stamped Navajo jewelry using only a saw, torch, mallet and stamps. Born in the early 1900’s in Lukachkai, AZ., Mark Chee attended the Fort Defiance boarding school from age 10 through the 11th grade, and moved to Santa Fe beginning his career by polishing stones for $5.00 a week. He became a well known and important silversmith working as a benchsmith for Frank Patania as well as Al Packard. Mark worked from the 1930\'s to 1960\'s, and his jewelry is easily recognizable by its heavy silver, stampwork, set stones and the stamp of his last name Chee in a bird. In addition to wearable jewelry, Mark also made silver flatware sets. Mark\'s influence is carried on today by such artists as Mike Bird Romero. His jewelry was in the 2002 exhibition “Jewels of the Southwest”. I have had this piece professionally evaluated by an experienced dealer & they advised me that this should bring a minimum of my current asking price. I am not opposed to considering reasonable offers. This piece is one of the nicest items I have owned & is a wearable investment item.
