RARE WW1 1st GOLD STAR MOTHERS PILGRIMAGE OFFICIAL NAMED NUMBERED MEDAL MAINE:
$495.95

Rare, medal PILGRIMAGE OF GOLD STAR MOTHERS. Measures approximately 1 5/8” across at the name tag, and the medal measures approximately 7/8” across at the widest. The name tag reads, in raised letters, Mrs. Angie Knox / Maine. The medal is numbered 5460 on the reverse along with the hallmark of Bailey Banks and offerdle. A finely made piece! The medal is in excellent condition showing little wear; it is quite tarnished, however. The box shows signs of crushing and the blue paper is worn away at the edges and corners, splitting on the bottom edge, small stain on top. An er has informed me that it appears re-ribboned, with the ribbon thinner than it should be and the colors reversed. You are buying the material pictured. In March 1929, eleven years after World War I, the U.S. Congress passed a law authorizing the use of government funds to pay for mothers and widows of fallen veterans (“Gold Star” mothers and widows) to visit their loved ones buried on the battlefields of Europe. This unprecedented program honoring the \"Gold Star\" mothers and widows was entrusted to the Quartermaster Corps for implementation. Some 6,693 Gold Star mothers and war widows made the pilgrimage abroad. US shipping is $2.60 (1st Class mail with tracking). No international shipping. This is a hobby, not a living, so I try to keep it fun, otherwise why do it. Thank you for trading with me on ._gsrx_vers_632 (GS 6.9.8 (632))
