Antique, ancient Sun Cross (Solar Cross, Sonnenkreuz) pendant cast from bronze or similar brass-like copper alloy. Good antique condition, slightly bent and worn likely due to devotional wearing by several generations, has beautiful green patina. Exact age unknown, could have been cast in the Medieval period or earlier. A cautious approach would date the cross as an artifact from 9th - 10th centuries.
The style of the pendant is similar to the Celtic Sun (Solar) cross, or Northern European or Gothic wheel cross pendants.
Similar crosses are often described as \"Viking\" crosses. Such crosses travelled across Europe during the Viking Age, a period of Nordic military, mercantile and demographic expansion reaching the Byzantine Empire, France, Italy, Baltic nations and Ancient Russia (Rus).
