This sale is for a rare collectors item, a Mercury card operated payphone which was seen on the streets of the uk during the early 1990\'s before becoming discontinued when Mercury withdrew from the market in the mid 90\'s. The item is complete with a key to open the payphone and the internal components appear to be all present with the exception of the sealed battery which sat in the bottom of the main case and was removed as they tend to leak over time.The payphone comes complete with a picture of all the different payphone kiosks available and also several phonecards including one unusual blank card.
The item is used and has some surface rust to the underside of the payphone and also I have noticed a small crack in the corner of the front face casting which does not affect the payphone which opens and shuts normally, please see pictures to get an idea of the condition for yourself.I was given this payphone by Mercury communications in 1995 when they were deciding to withdraw from the uk market, after a visit to their headquarters in Milton keynes, I was trying to organise a deal to move the entire operation to another country and set up a card operated payphone service abroad, there is a letter enclosed from Mercury detailing the price that they wanted for their equipment.I was told by a Mercury employee that their instructions were if a buyer wasn\'t found all the pay phones, the equipment and their livery were to be destroyed and this makes the remaining item fairly unique.I am happy to send this item anywhere worldwide at cost price delivery,Will consider sensible serious offers for this item,Any questions are very welcome and thanks for looking
