Rare star background 1 1/4\" William Howard Taft 1908 President celluloid color:

Original rare 1 1/4\" celluloid pinback button of William Howard Taft - full color red, white & blue with Taft photo inside a red 5 pointed star on a blue background with gold stars surrounding. The button is a bit flattened and the celluloid is split down the length (I think because of that pressing.) There is also a tiny chip to the right of the split- see pictures. Overall, the colors are a bit muted, especially the blue of the background. For some reason, my camera really brightened up the blue areas but in person, it is definitely a little bit darker and duller. William Howard Taft (September 15, 1857 – March 8, 1930) served as the 27th President of the United States (1909–1913) and as the 10th Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court (1921–1930), the only person to have held both offices. Taft was elected president in 1908, the chosen successor of Theodore Roosevelt, but was defeated for re-election by Woodrow Wilson in 1912 after Roosevelt split the Republican vote by running as a third-party candidate. In 1921, President Warren G. Harding appointed Taft chief justice, a position in which he served until a few weeks before his death.
