We are listing this rarely seen very large early 1800s Georgian London salt glazed pickle jar which is impressed on its front shoulder G WHYBROW Wholesale Pickle Warehouse 4 Minories. George Whybrow was a well known London manufacturer and exporter of pickles, sauces and bottled fruits during the early 1800s at his Minories Street location near The Tower of London. Usually when you find old stoneware shop pots or jars like this they are much smaller, but this one is huge - 10 inches tall and almost 7 inches wide. It is also in exceptional condition for a functional 200 year old piece of commercial stoneware, with a wonderful orange peel glaze finish at the top. There is no maker\'s mark on the piece, but it was undoubtedly made by one of the potteries in the London area. There is a long dark glaze drip down one side of the pot (with an open bubble pop at the bottom of it) - sometimes referred to as a \"turkey dropping\" on old American pots/crocks, but it really doesn\'t detract from this great old piece. Please view the closeup pictures and judge for yourself. This is a spectacular collector and decorator item, and a great piece of history, with the full set of information impressed on its front shoulder.
